The Rockwall Trail
July 11-15 2019
Hiking through dense forest and jagged mountains in Kootenay National Park for five days is a photographers dream, throw in some good looking people who know how to be comfortable in the backcountry, some delicious dehydrated meals, a sprinkle of dirty jokes and the odd sip of scotch, well now, you have yourself a very good time.
When I google the Rockwall Trail it comes up as one of British Columbia’s bucket list hikes. 55-ish kilometres of stunning trail and campgrounds scattered along the way. This hike is one I will definitely consider in my top BC experiences, and that says a lot, because I would consider myself a well traveled British Columbian. We covered three mountain passes, glaciers, huge waterfalls and so many meadows of wildflowers I lost count. I took a couple of sneaky dips in glacial waters and a couple of rainy afternoon naps in my tent when the weather was kicking into high gear and we were lucky enough to be in camp by that point.
BCA Tours is a company I have had the pleasure of joining on some other BC hikes, including the well known West Coast Trail, and the lesser known, but equally as beautiful North Coast Trail (they call it the west coast trail 30 years ago) both on Vancouver Island. I love being able to attend trips with this crew because they know how to make a backcountry trip feel a little less stressful and a lot more catered. Including all handcrafted and lovingly dehydrated meals, hot cups of tea when you get to camp and some solid guidance along the way. For anyone who is interested in getting out deep into the back country of the Coast or the Kootenays, and you want a little extra comfort along the way, these guys do it best.
Now I am certainly in my happy place when I am travelling, hiking, breathing fresh air and photographing the great outdoors, but honestly, people are what makes it or breaks it for me. I love photographing you beautiful humans, and this trip provided some amazing people to capture in the moment.
So to the crew that joined us on this hike, thank you!
